3 easy steps to protect yourself online

internetAlthough Internet can sometimes seem like the Wild West, with “hunters” looking for ways to violate your privacy, steal passwords and your money, there are some easy steps for you so as to prevent such incidents. Sometimes you may want to return to the old good days where there was no Internet, instead of dealing with the plethora of online threats, but there are some simple steps you can take to minimize the risks.

1st – Get antivirus software According to CNET, Avast Free Antivirus 7 and Bitdefender Total Security 2012 are top security software, although there are several other good suites, free or with a fee. Choose one that has nice reviews and that you trust. Make sure you update it frequently and perform regular scans.

2nd – Use password manager Use applications for managing your passwords, preferably those that are not based on any browser. Two of the best applications supported by both Windows and Mac are LastPass and RoboForm.

3rd – Use two browsers Use two different browsers for browsing the web. In one run critical operations such as financial transactions and in the other do your regular searches or other activities that are not so critical for your privacy. For example, use Firefox and Chrome. No matter which of them you use for each action, the important thing is that both browsers are safe and do frequent upgrades.

It is the easiest way to protect your sensitive data from malicious applications. It is important to know that there are no ways for a user to be totally safe online, but the above tips will help you a little more boosting “your online defenses.” Whatch the following video from CNET: http://cnettv.cnet.com/protect-yourself-online-three-easy-steps/9742-1_53-50122642.html
